Jean-Christophe Bott took over his family estate in 1993, before converting it to biodynamics in 2002. They tend 15 hectares around Beblenheim in southern Alsace.
The Grand Cru Sonnenglanz is one the region’s finest terroirs for the Gewürztraminer grape variety. A warm and dry microclimate and limestone-rich soil allows for perfect ripeness with great freshness and minerality. The 2011 vintage, now beautifully mature, displays the intense aromatics characteristic of this grape: lychee, rose, ginger and apricot practically jump out of the glass. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and off-dry, perfect for strong cheeses (like the local Munster), fruit desserts or just as a luxurious after dinner sipper.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome.
