Domaine Georges Noëllat, in the heart of the village of Vosne-Romanee, is a historic estate now helmed by the young and highly talented Maxime Cheurlin, grandson of founder Georges. He took over in 2010 aged just 20 years old, after studying at the Lycee du Viticole and gaining experience at the outstanding Rouget and Gros family domaines.
Maxime's winemaking style is heralded for the gentle treatment of the grapes, allowing terroir and finesse to shine through. He destems almost all of his red grapes, and allows for a natural extraction without excessive punch downs to achieve deliciously balanced tannins. After aging the wines are bottled without fining or filtration.
The village Vosne Romanee, which could be seen as the estate's most important wine, is a blend of five vineyards around the village totalling 1.14 hectares. After the slow maceration the wine is aged for 20 months in French oak, with 50% new barrels.
Ripe and fragrant red fruits, lots of rich spice and subtle earthy notes combine on a generously concentrated nose. The elegance and subtlety of the house style is here but so is the power common to wines from Vosne, with excellent length and intensity of flavour. Drinking excellently in its youth, and would partner a rare filet of beef beautifully.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Having tasted them she was spot on with her comments on each bottle. I would highly recommend anyone to use this shop.
