This particular vineyard is located about 5 kilometres north of the Loir (not to be confused with the Loire) and is just under an hour south of Le Mans. The grapes, sourced from 120-year-old vines, undergo a prolonged 12-week maceration in stainless steel, followed by a 3-month fermentation. Afterward, the wine spends 6 months aging in amphora, with minimal fining and filtration. The result is a wine that is exceptionally fine and elegant, featuring beautifully supple, chalky tannins, abundant black cherry fruit, and a hint of liquorice.
In 2009, there were just 400 hectares of Pinot d'Aunis in France, making it a rare grape variety from a small appellation that offers a refined alternative to Pinot Noir.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome.
