This Burgundian estate was started in 1922 and has excellent sites including parcels in Echezeaux. It is run by Clare Naudin, who makes the wines, and often wins many awards and receives good reviews. This is one of her more affordable and approachable burgundies.
La Plante is a small parcel of vines, less than one hectare, in the Hautes Cotes du Beaune. It is 100% Pinot Noir and she uses whole bunch fermentation, which is a traditional practice in this region. So the fruit and stalks all go into the tank, resulting in a fruit driven wine with a silky texture. The 2018 vintage was a warm vintage, so the fruit was picked early to preserve freshness. Clare is susceptible to the effects of sulphur, so this is bottled with hardly any.
It is a medium bodied, delicate wine, it has plenty of mixed red and black berry flavours, with an elegant Burgundian structure. But the acidity and tannin in this wine are both drinkable, you could even lightly chill this wine.
