The Joáo Pato (Duckman) range of wines are made by father and daughter, Maria and Luis. Here they celebrate the native varieties of the Bairrada region and the maritime influence on the vines. The production is sustainable, with minimal intervention.
50% Maria Gomes (AKA Fernão Pires) 50% Baga, from 20 year old vines planted to 1.5ha of chalky and sandy soil. The grapes are harvested in early September and spontaneous fermentation lasts for three weeks in stainless steel. The wine spends the entire time on lees without stirring and the wine is unfined and unfiltered (evidence of this can be seen through the clear glass bottle!). The wine is aged for 6 months before bottling.
Pear and brioche flavours with a creamy texture and a tart edge.
