Easter Quartet Mixed Case

Daffodils coming out, green leaves returning to trees, real daylight in the morning... spring is beginning to spring and we have got a lovely quartet of wines to celebrate Easter and the changing of the seasons. With wines perfect for roast lamb or chocolate eggs, this special mixed case will have your drinking sorted for the Easter weekend.

Cremant de Bourgogne Blanc de Blancs Terres Secretes NV, France - £20.99

Pure Chardonnay from the Macon, made in the traditional method and superb value for money. A lovely wine for a toast with family before Easter Sunday lunch or perhaps to take for a picnic (English spring weather permitting). Delicate white flower and lemon zest aromas, with subtle pastry hints on the nose. A fresh and elegant palate with soft and persistent bubbles delights the tastebuds, leaving a lasting flavour of crisp apples and white peach.

Hanewald-Schwerdt Weissburgunder Trocken 2021, Pfalz, Germany - £15.99

On Good Friday it is Christian tradition to eat fish, which we think is a good idea regardless of religious belief! (Perhaps something from our tinned fish selection might tempt you?) For a delicious pairing with fish or seafood, we suggest this delicious Weissburgunder, also known as Pinot Blanc, from Germany's Pfalz region. Dry and minerally, with apricot and pear fruit notes on the palate, it is refreshing and clean with a long smooth finish. Alternatively, it makes a delicious match with asparagus, a notoriously difficult food to pair wine with.

Chateau Puybarbe Le Roc de Chateau Puybarbe 2020, Cotes de Bourg, Bordeaux, France - £15.49

What to drink with that succulent joint of roast lamb on Easter Sunday? Nothing beats a classic bottle of claret, with nice rich tannins to meld with the delicious lamb fat and complement its strong meaty flavours. Le Roc is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon aged in French oak barrels. A ripe and generous style bursting with black fruit notes, hints of woody spice and vanilla. The tannic structure is full without being harshly grippy, so makes a perfect partner for roasted meat. For vegetarians we recommend pairing with the bold savoury flavours of lentil and mushroom dishes.

Cline Cellars Late Harvest Mourvedre 2019, California 375ml - £20.99

Easter isn't Easter without plenty of chocolate, and this decadent California dessert wine has all of the bold sweet flavour to go with your favourite truffles, eggs and chocolate bunnies. Made from Mourvedre left on the vine well into autumn, that dries into raisins on the vine in the dry heat of Contra Costa County, it has notes of black cherry jam, dried figs and cocoa on the nose. Bold and luxurious on the palate, with sweet black fruits and hints of nutmeg and cinnamon.
