Eguren Ugarte Malvasia 2022

Eguren Ugarte family are in their sixth generation of winemakers in Laguardia, Rioja Alavesa. They combine modern viticulture with a deep respect for the land and the environment.

In February 2012 the estate obtained the Intergrated Protection certification, issued by the HAZI foundation, for their commitment to a more sustainable approaches to wine production.  They have significantly reduced their use of herbicides, now mechanically eliminating the weeds that grow in the line. They plant Brassicas to naturally disinfect the soils from nematodes and other harmful micro-organisms and by using a network of meteorological stations, they gather information on humidity, air and soil temperature, leaf humidity and rain so they can target more accurately, any problems which may need treating in the vineyard. 

The grapes for this 100% Malvasia wine come from vineyards in the clay-calcareous soils of Labastida, Páganos, Leza and Elciego, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa.  The wine spends 5 months in new French oak barrels.

A fresh, crisp wine with tropical fruit predominating. Herbal and floral notes play a supporting role, keeping each mouthful more interesting and enticing.
