Let me introduce our new favourite Loire Chenin Blanc...
This wine comes from Coteaux du Vendomois, a small cooperative of twenty growers, established in 1929.
Chenin blanc is the only permitted white grape variety in this appellation. Cocagne is a specific site, elevated by the sought after silex soil.
Tiny quantities of quality dry Chenin Blanc are made from this one hectare site.
It’s a fabulous wine for the price, it is similar to a Vouvray. It is packed with ripe, juicy, tangy citrus fruits. It has a touch of honey and a light touch of cream, it’s medium rich with a long dry finish.
Le Carillon de Vendôme is a nursery rhyme dating back to the 15th Century and believed to be France’s oldest folk song. The musical notes are printed on the label, so you can sing along while you have a glass.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome.
