The grapes for this wine are sourced from the Paardeberg and Swartland regions, where most vineyards are composed of non-irrigated bush vines. Hand-picked at optimal ripeness, at 24.5 degrees Balling, the grapes underwent fermentation between 22 and 24°C, with daily pump-overs and punch-downs for optimal extraction. After pressing, the wine matured in a mix of 300-litre French, American, and Hungarian oak barrels—20% in first-fill barrels for 14-16 months, and 80% in second and third-fill barrels for the same period—each adding to the wine's balanced structure.
A proud expression of South Africa’s signature variety, this Pinotage exhibits a deep purple colour with bright crimson hues. The nose is filled with vibrant aromas of raspberry and cherry, complemented by soft notes of nutmeg and black pepper. Juicy red fruit flavours, subtle vanilla, and oak spice blend seamlessly, finishing with soft tannins and an elegant aftertaste.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful.
