Meandro comes from one of our favorite wine estates Quinta do Vale Meao in the Douro Valley, Portugal. The vineyards are owned and farmed by the Olazabal family, who are direct descendents from the impressive D. Antonia Adelaide Ferriera who established the estate in 1870. The winery is now run by Francisco "Xito" Olazabal, who is taking time and care to bring the very best out of the many parcels of vineyards at his disposal.
Like others in this region, Vale Meao is situated a good way up the Douro river, they make world class reds, and ports. We also really like their white table wine. The climate here is perhaps more suitable to ripening red grape varieties, and the heat can be a problem for white wines. But at Meao, they have multiple sites, on different soils at different altitudes. This allows Xito to put together the best suited varieties and vineyards, resulting in a really fresh Douro white wine.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome.
