Monkey Morio Weingut Hanewald-Schwerdt 2019

£13.75 GBP

One monkey! Much Fruit! No bananas! I am super excited to have this wine in stock! We are massive fans of Stefan and I spotted this on their social media a few months ago and asked if we could get some. So we did. This is made from a now unfashionable hybrid grape called Morio Muskat. It has no direct relationship to Muscat but is very similar in character.

It's full of fruit!! Wonderfully perfurmed, full of elderflower, gooseberry, lychee, apple, hints of pineapple and a hint of spice. Its zesty, spritzy and off dry and only 11.5% ABV. Super fresh and grapey, it would be excellent with some Thai food, or sushi or drunk just by itself in the sunshine.

Why a monkey? While working in the vineyard, a little stuffed monkey was found. This was then tied to the end of the rows of vines to give the owner the opportunity to find it again. The monkey hung there until pruning and was the first thing to be seen at harvest. He is now the Morio Muskat mascot seen on the label.
