This is an old vine Blaufrankisch from the Burgenland in Austria.
It is jam packed full of ripe, spicy cherry fruit, it is velvety smooth, long and exudes class. This is what you get when you invest heavily in your vineyards and are a producer focussed on growing top quality fruit. It is medium bodied, but packs a bunch with the intensity of the fruit flavours.
Roland Moric wanted to travel a different wine path to his family, who are focussed on white wines and top quality sweet wines. In 2001 he released his first wines, exploring cool climate Blaufrankisch, a grape variety which has so often been disappointing in the past, when masked with layers of oak.
He is based towards the east of Austria, sourcing fruit from high altitude vineyards, making wines with minimal intervention, natural yeasts, and no new oak. This is a delight.
