Mountford Estate Pure Riesling 2010

£16.99 GBP

And now for something different, Mountford Estate Pure Riesling 2010, yes indeed, it is now ten years old. Mountford Estate was established in 1991 in Waipara, on the southern island of New Zealand. They were initially attracted to the high limestone hills, which help give the wines a european elegance.

They make Burgundian style Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and some Alsation inspired wines such as their field blend and Rieslings. This is a delicious wine, perfect for afternoon drinking, it is just about 10%, and is off dry. It has some oily petroly notes on the nose, with lime and honeyed fruit.

I thought it was going to be a bit too sweet, but it isn't, it's not cloying at all, and it doesn't take long before you want another glass. It's vegan, and Mountford now farm with biodynamic principles. It's not often you get to try new world wines with some bottle age, and especially at this bargain price.
