We are huge fans of Portuguese wine superstar Dirk Niepoort, and for good reason. The winery is an independent family business stretching back five generations. In 2005 Dirk officially took over the family estate and his passion for wines and the humble respect and curiosity for the Douro terroir defined Niepoort spirit over the last two decades and is a constant inspiration and challenge to the team.
Niepoort Tawny Dee, with an average age of three and a half years, originates from low yielding vineyards in the Cima corgo region of the Douro Valley. The grapes are predominantly trodden in lagares, prior to ageing in small old oak casks at lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia.
During the ageing process Tawny Dee acquires great wisdom and subtleness through ageing in small old oak casks, exhibiting discrete characters of dried stone fruits. Fantastic with nuts based desserts, fruit pies or the Portuguese "Leite Creme queimado" The label takes inspiration from Alice in Wonderland which is apparent in the transformative elements of the flavour. A great value Tawny Port.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Having tasted them she was spot on with her comments on each bottle. I would highly recommend anyone to use this shop.
