Paul Wallace 'Black Dog' Malbec 2019

This wine is named after Jake, Paul’s loyal black Labrador/Rottweiler mix, and also nods to the deep colour of the Malbec grape, often called the Black Grape.

Their Malbec comes from three distinct blocks, each with its own character due to different row orientations and training systems. The blocks were harvested separately, allowing each to contribute its unique qualities. After fermentation, the wine was left on the skins before being transferred to French oak barriques, where malolactic fermentation occurred. The wine then matured for about 22 months, with 20% aged in new oak. An additional 25% was aged in a concrete egg, enhancing its fruit-driven profile and adding complexity to the final blend.

Much like its namesake, the Black Dog Malbec is dark, robust, and full of character. It offers an intriguing, somewhat exotic nose with hints of blueberries, blackberries, blackcurrants, and juicy red plums. On the palate, you'll find a satisfying blend of red and black fruits, a subtle thread of spice, and silky tannins that provide just the right amount of structure for food pairing. This is a truly memorable wine that embodies the natural elegance of Elgin.
