Adega Pedralonga DoUmia Tinto
Adega Pedralonga is a small producer situated about 10 miles from the coast in the Spanish region Rias Baixas. This region is most well known for the white wines made from the Albarino grape, it is interesting to try one of the few red wines made in this area.
Pedralonga means big rock, and refers to the large granite rocks protruding from the soil. The vineyards were planted in 1982 and have always been farmed organically, since 2007 they introduced biodynamic principles.
This Galician red is a blend of mostly Mencia, supported by Caina and Espadeiro. It is bright, not too heavy, and would work well if slightly chilled. It deftly combines berry fruit flavours with more savoury notes. It's an interesting wine, not big and powerful, but not lacking in flavour and intrigue.
