The story of this wine begins with two winemakers: one from the Old World and one from the New World. Ernst Loosen, is a famed Riesling producer behind Germany’s Dr. Loosen and Villa Wolf wineries, who has a lifelong passion for Pinot Noir. He recognised early on that there was something very special going on in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, and he wanted to be a part of it.
Oregon winemaker Jay Somers was making a small-production Willamette Valley Pinot called J. Christopher when Ernst met him. Ernst was attracted to a New World wine which is European in style, and has a true expression of terroir. The two soon began working together and over the last 10 yeast have created some amazing wines and even been named a Wine & Spirits World Top 100 Winery.
They allow their wines to develop naturally, with minimal intervention. The 2013 Pinot Noir is a very fine example from the dream team wine makers. It comes from the AVA Dundee Hills. It's elegant and delicate in style, very smooth and not too in your face, it is unfiltered. It is structured but has softened with bottle age, it has gentle red fruits and creamy mouthfeel with a soft finish.
