Limoux Pinot Noir Abbe Rous IGP Pays d'Oc 2019

£14.95 GBP

Caves de L'Abbe Rous is a company based above the seaside resort of Banyuls-sur-Mer in the south of France. They acted as agents for many small winemakers in the Banyuls, Collioure, Limoux and Pyennees. They now own vineyards in seven sub regions of Roussillon and have become a recent success story.

You would expect to find more Rhone style wines and grape varieties in this region, which L'Abbe Rous does produce. However we tasted this joker in the pack, a Pinot Noir, which you might not expect to find succeeding in this hot southerly wine region.
The 18 year old vines are grown 300 metres up, on gravelly free draining soils in Limoux. It has a small amount of oak ageing to give it body and texture. It's a really friendly style of pinot Noir, fruit driven, with enough about it to keep it interesting. It's nice to find a classy tasting french Pinot Noir at this price, almost impossible to find in the great region of Burgundy.
This makes a great pairing to a roast Sunday lunch, and continues to slip down a treat once the food has gone.
