Pursued by Bear, Bear Cub 2019

Actor Kyle MacLachlan grew up in Yakima, Washington. His serious interest in wine was sparked when director David Lynch gifted him a bottle of Château Lynch-Bages for landing the part of Paul Atreides in Dune.  With his father (a keen gardener and tender of fruit trees) they discovered the wines from Eastern Washington and eventually embarked on a collaboration with Eric Dunham, winemaker in Walla Walla, Columbia Valley. They now produce Bordeaux inspired wines using grapes and oak barrels of uncompromising quality. 

93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 1% Syrah - Harvested from six distinct vineyards, including those nestled in the Horse Heaven Hills, Wahluke Slope, and Walla Walla Valley regions. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes were meticulously handpicked, sorted, and gently fermented. Following this, they underwent an aging process in French oak barrels characterized by tight grains and substantial staves. This deliberate approach allowed for a gradual harmonization of the fruit and oak elements. A subtle inclusion of Syrah, matured in 600L Taransaud puncheons, adds opulence and depth.

The wine exudes youthful energy and vibrancy, with alluring aromas of ripe berries complemented by a delicate undertone of vanilla bean. On the palate, it offers a lavish and flavourful experience, where notes of wild raspberry, black currant, and dark stone fruit blend perfectly. These flavours are further enhanced by a subtle infusion of dark cocoa, culminating in a wine that is both rich and satisfying.

The name Pursued by Bear is borrowed from the famous Shakespeare stage direction: “Exit, pursued by bear.”
