Quinta do Espinho Senior 2019

Quinta do Espinho spans 20 hectares along the Távora River, located on the left bank of the Douro River in the heart of the Douro Valley's wine culture. Recognized as one of the world's finest wine landscapes, the Upper Douro wine-growing region was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001. Its exceptional location offers both strategic accessibility and remarkable potential for viticulture, landscaping, and environmental sustainability.

The vineyard's nutrient-rich soil, composed of schist plates that retain moisture, enables the vines to withstand the dry summer conditions. The estate began replanting vines and restoring its older vineyards in 1986, by 2010, the winery and storage facilities underwent modernization and the estate's 18th-century buildings were carefully restored, preserving traditional elements such as the stone wine presses, which are still in use today. The renovation was executed with state-of-the-art wine production and storage equipment to ensure the highest standards of quality and versatility in the winemaking process.

The Touriga Nacional vines, planted in 1985 at an elevation of 100 meters and facing north, and the Touriga Franca vines, located at 150 meters and facing northwest, reflect the unique character of the land. The wine is vinified in granite tanks under controlled temperatures and aged for 9 months in French oak barrels.

Deep purplish red in colour, this has an expansive nose of black fruits, cocoa powder and stony mineral notes. Full-bodied with structured tannins and a rich savoury finish, a true taste of the Douro Valley that pairs perfectly with game or lamb.
