Nat'Cool is a growing natural wine movement started by star Douro winemaker Dirk Niepoort, which has now spread throughout Portugal and beyond. The philosophy is about creating fresh, approachable, low-alcohol wines showcasing indigenous varieties and vineyard terroirs.
We like to think of them as uniquely well-made natural wines... and this one is a cracker. It's a field blend of 85% red and 15% white grapes, crushed by foot in classic Douro style then wild fermented, aged for 9 months in old oak and bottled without fining or filtering.
'Juicy' would be our one-word review. It's lovely and fresh, bright and snappy, with loads of berry fruit and floral things going on, plus a mineral hint and some nice sappy tannins. At 11.5% abv it's so easy drinking too.
