Seven of Hearts is the West Coast love affair of Byron and Dana Dooley, who moved north from California to Oregon in the early 2000s to begin their adventures with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. They have been beavering away at their mission to produce complex, pure and elegant small-batch wines ever since.
2012 was a once-in-a-generation year for Pinot Noir in Willamette Valley - small in quantity but of extraordinary quality. This Very Special Reserve brings together selected grapes from around the region to showcase every virtue of the vintage - power, depth, complexity and richness.
The fruit profile of this wine is phenomenal - so red and round and silky, with a beautiful spicy notes coming from the portion aged in new French oak. Some older oak was also used, which has softened and integrated some of the tannin of the vintage. But it's on the velvety smooth finish that the quality of this wine really shines through.
Will keep improving for many years, but it's already so good you'll struggle to resist the temptation.
