Summer Drinkers Mixed Case 2022
Here is a selection to help you enjoy the, hopefully, warm, bright, summer weather. The mixed six Summer Drinkers includes two bottles of white, one bottle of rose and three bottles of red. There is something here for just sipping in the garden or enjoying alongside a BBQ.
Raza Vinho Verde (Portugal) - £10.95
At 11.5% alcohol, [Raza] is a blend of Arinto (50%), Azal (35%) and Trajadura (15%). With a fizzy crispness and easy, fruity finish this wine is dangerously easy to drink. At 11.5% you can have a second bottle too! It’s a wonderful wine for drinking by itself or with oily fish, salads or anything spicy as it tackles heat well.
Peu Pres Sauvignon Blanc (France) - £12.75 Based in Trace Sur Loire, at the heart of Pouilly Fume, the 'A peu pres' means more or less and is made from Sauvignon Blanc, but from fruit outside the recognised appellation areas, so is labelled as a table wine.
For the inquisitive, and those in the know, this is a bargain. You have quality fruit, in the hands of talented winemakers, made in exactly the same way as a Pouilly Fume, but without the price a Pouilly Fume commands. It has plenty of ripe, round citrus fruit flavours, with a steely, flinty spine and a long finish.
Domaine Grandpre Cuvee Minotaure Rose (France) - £16.99
Domaine Grandpre owns 26 hectares of vineyards in the foothills of the Massif de Maures. Typical to the Provence region in France, the plants are grown on garrigues soil, which is quite rough terrain, so the vines have to work hard, this results in concentrated fruit.
The wines in this region are based around some of the Rhone style varieties, such as Grenache, Cinsault and Mourvedre. The Cuvee Minotaur is a blend of all three grape varieties, from their oldest plot of vines, on south facing slopes. The fruit reaches optimum ripeness in this site, and has more depth and complexity.
Mandrarossa Costadune Frappato (Italy) - £12.50
Frappato is an old Sicilian grape variety with peasant origins. In the past it has been relegated to a blended wine, often mixed with the better known, Nero D’Avola. Unlike the deep and dark Nero D’Avola grape, Frappato is lighter and fresher, with red berry fruit, roses and violets. There is a touch of sweet spice. Juicy sour-cherry notes really lift the wine, making it an excellent aperitif when chilled. Powerful, yet pretty with medium acidity and low tannins making it suitable for Mediterranean vegetable dishes, pasta and white meats.
Secateurs Cinsault Shiraz Grenache Badenhorst (South Africa) - £12.99
Secateurs Red Blend has gone from being Shiraz based to new a blend dominated by Cinsault with Shiraz / Grenache playing the supporting role. We're happy with the switch up because we with Cinsault is a fabulous grape and always a pleasure to drink! The wine is smooth and elegant, filled with glossy and bright red fruit, but just that edge of earthiness
Bodegas Sottano Malbec (Argentina) - £11.95
This family estate in Mendoza is run and owned by the Sottano brothers Diego, Pablo and Mauricio. It sits at 1000m altitude in the foothills of the Andes so benefiting from the warm days and cold nights typical of the region which make for well balanced and perfectly ripe grapes.
Aromas of ripe red fruits, plums and raspberries which is complimented by delicate chocolate and vanilla.
Total = £78.13
Discounted to = £70.00
Please note these wines are subject to vintage changes and if we run out of a wine we will substitute it for a like for like wine.
