Ultra cool climate Syrah from Elgin & Agulhas.
The Syrah grapes undergo a long slow cold ferment before they are gently pressed & racked off into 500L French oak & American oak puncheons, with the remainder in 300L old French hogsheads for 18 months barrel maturation. A barrel selection was made & blended to Inox tank for a settling period of 10 months prior to bottling unfined & unfiltered. Only yeast & small amounts of sulphur are added during the process.
This vintage is a typical cool climate vintage with generosity, with an unmistakable Syrah-ness wrapped up in red and black hedgerow fruits, ripe plum, some cocoa nib, new leather, fynbos & bright spice. The medium palate is framed by exotic aromatics, dark fruits, lithe acidity & deeply savoury finish punctuated by fynbos (garrigue) & red fruit making for an moreish drop. Decant in youth or cellar to experience its full potential in the decade to come.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome.
