Tenuta Casuccio Tarletti Chianti Classico 2016
We welcome the return of this bargain Chianti Classico. It really delivers for the price, an ideal treat when hunkered down inside amongst this blustery weather. Chianti used to be more well known at the lower end, when there was a lot of bulk wine produced and sold in the recognisable ratafia flagons. In recent years this idyllic Tuscan area focusses much more on quality than quantity. Chianti Classico is a small subregion of Classico, where historically the fruit grown was considered much better quality than the grapes farmed on the lower surrounding slopes. The major grape variety is Sangiovese. Tenuta Casuccio Tarletti have 7 hectares of both Chianti and Classico. They age this particular wine in steel, large and small oak barrels, all of which results in a mellow complex juicy red. This has a lot of fruit driven flavour, and offers great value compared to other more illustrious Chianti Classico wines.
