ALF comes from Terra d'Alter which is in the Alentejo region in the South of Portugal, where the history of wine growing dates back to Roman times.
The project is led by renowned winemaker Peter Bright, who we've had in the shop to host a few wine tastings and is great! He's an Australian who has been making wine in Portugal since 1982, and who focuses on its native grape varieties made in a modern expressive style.
Made from 100% Alfrocheiro grapes native to Portugal. A unique variety that produces small bunches similar to Pinot Noir. It is always handpicked and then crushed. This is followed by fermentation in small stainless steel tanks and then eight months maturing
Aromatic ripe cherries and spice on the nose followed by balanced acidity and good structure. The tannins are silky and rich creating a smooth mouthfeel & it has a very long finish.

Whilst packing up to move internationally a friend died and I needed to organise an emergency case of something luscious to support the wake. Not only did their wonderful team organise and deliver within an incredibly tight deadline they drafted a message for me too which I approved. Wonderful!!

Henry and Team managed to locate some difficult to find American wine which they kindly offered and I gratefully accepted. They truly differentiate by being able to surprise by sourcing stock very much outside the run of the mill.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Having tasted them she was spot on with her comments on each bottle. I would highly recommend anyone to use this shop.
