Clément and Florian Berthier are following in their Father’s footsteps, to continue and preserve the family heritage of wine making in this very special Loire region.
Terre de Silex: Coteaux du Giennois comes from very specific soils, located in the town of Saint Père, between Gien and Cosne-sur-Loire. The vines are planted on hillsides of the Loire, extensions of the geologic formations of Sancerrois and Pouilly. Coteaux du Giennois is a small and recent appellation, although there is archeological evidence of winegrowing in this region since the 2nd century. The Loire River and the continental influence from the East create a temperate climate helping to produce intense yet structured wine. The harvested grapes are delicately pressed and the juice obtained is allowed to settle for around 36 hours. The alcoholic fermentation starts naturally at a controlled temperature of 15-18°C. The wine is then matured for a few months on its fine lees until the bottling is carried out in the spring.
This golden yellow wine is forthright and taut on the palate. An elegant wine with a unique, gunflint minerality and generous body.
