The Liberator, Ep.40 Void of Course 2019

Part of The Liberator range from renowned Master of Wine, Richard Kelley, who is also known as the 'Cape Crusader' working on seeking out (liberating) rare wines that may have been blended in bulk.

Last May, on a rainy day in Cape Town, Rick was at Ginny Povall's Sugarbird Manor farm in Stellenbosch's Devon Valley, tasting her new wines. Ginny, known for her humility, asked for his honest opinion about a mystery wine she poured. Rick, confident in his judgment, praised the wine, which turned out to be an unplanned blend of Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir from the farm's grapes. This unexpected blend had matured wonderfully after three years in the cellar.

As they discussed the wine's future, Ginny mentioned something mystical called "The Pathless Moon," referring to the moon's void-of-course phase when it transitions between zodiac signs. She explained that during this time, one should avoid important decisions and instead focus on relaxation and meditation. Rick was intrigued but skeptical.

He asked how long this void-of-course phase lasts, and Ginny revealed it could be just minutes or several hours, occurring multiple times a week. Rick, despite the moon's whims, decided to release the wine anyway, defying the mystical beliefs.
