Vigneau-Chevreau Vouvray Sec Silex 2019

£16.99 GBP

Vouvray is in the central Loire and focuses on wines made from the Chenin Blanc grape variety. The grape doesn't always appear on the label, so you might not be aware of how many wines there are using this grape. We love it, as it can be light and dry, or rich and honeyed, or sweet and even sparkling.

This particular one made by Vigneau Chevreau is labelled as Sec, so although it has a dried fruit, and tangy freshness, it finishes dry. Vigneau Chevreau are a family run estate which has been making wine since the late 1800s the estate has increased from 5 to 33 hectares during this time, and is completely dedicated to Chenin Blanc.

The label mentions Silex, this refers to the type of soil in the area which is a combination of limestone and clay, which helps the grapes take on a steely acidity. Vigneau Chevreau converted to biodynamic farming in 1995, this dry Vouvray has been aged mainly in stainless steel to preserve freshness. It is medium bodied, aromatic, it has lovely ripe fruit flavours with good acidity, we think it works well with spicy food, or cheese.
