A family-owned winery founded in 1946, Barbeito are at the forefront of quality wine production on the island of Madeira. Working the steep and rugged vineyards here is a labour of love, as is the long barrel ageing required to make the refined and complex fortified wines the island is famed for.
This wine hails from a distinctive vineyard nestled in the lower slopes of Estreito de Câmara de Lobos. Its journey began in March 2009, undergoing the traditional Canteiro aging method in seasoned French oak casks at moderate temperatures. In March 2019, a total of 2,986 bottles were meticulously filled, each bearing its unique number. Displaying a lustrous gold hue, it offers enticing aromas of dried fruits, dominated by notes of walnuts, with hints of ripe quince, dried flowers, and citrus zest. On the palate, it presents delicately, with a refreshing crispness and finely balanced acidity, culminating in an elegant finish. Ideal as an aperitif, it pairs well with olives, toasted almonds, marinated fish, and aged cheeses.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Having tasted them she was spot on with her comments on each bottle. I would highly recommend anyone to use this shop.
