Chateau Thivin Clos de Rochebonne Beaujolaic Blanc 2023

Located on the slopes of Mont Brouilly in Beaujolais, the historic estate of Château Thivin has been in the Geoffray family’s hands for six generations. Their 16th-century vineyard site of Clos de Rochebonne sits atop golden limestone (“pierres dorées”) soils that lend unmistakable purity and minerality to the fruit. The current generation, Claude-Edouard and Sonja Geoffray, are guiding the property through organic conversion and emphasising vineyard health, terroir expression and minimal intervention.

For the 2023 vintage, the grapes (100% Chardonnay) were harvested by hand from the steep, east-facing slopes of the Clos de Rochebonne parcel. Following a gentle press and cold clarification, the wine was matured for eight months on its fine lees in barrels ranging from one to ten years old, supporting texture while preserving aromatic clarity.

Pale gold in the glass, this wine opens with lifted aromas of white flowers, lemon zest, pear and delicate hints of toasted almond. On the palate it delivers a seamless blend of texture and freshness: ripe stone fruit (white peach, apricot) gives way to finely integrated oak, gentle waves of minerality and a clean, lingering finish. 

Serve with grilled sea bass, buttery scallops, shellfish in light sauce, or a creamy goat’s cheese tart. Also wonderful simply enjoyed on its own.
