Domaine Raspail-Ay is a family-run estate in Gigondas, Rhône, now managed by siblings Anne-Sophie and Christophe Ay. The vineyard is planted mainly with Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre on clay-limestone and sandy soils. The family emphasizes traditional viticulture, with hand-harvested grapes, concrete fermentation, and aging in large, old oak foudres to preserve the character of the terroir.
The 2021 Gigondas shows a deep ruby colour and opens with aromas of ripe red fruits, like cherry and raspberry, complemented by herbal hints and a touch of spice. On the palate it is lively and smooth, with juicy fruit, balanced acidity, and silky tannins. The finish is long, carrying subtle floral, herbal, and lightly smoky notes, making it a polished and approachable expression of Gigondas.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome.
