Neuburger, often called the Moses of Austrian grapes, is said to have been pulled from the Danube in the 1860s before being planted in the Wachau. Modern research shows it’s a natural cross of Roter Veltliner and Grüner Sylvaner. It thrives in the poor, dry loess soils of Reisenthal, where even minimal water allows this hardy variety to excel.
Tasting Notes:
Bright straw-yellow with distinctive nutty aromas on both nose and palate. Excellent with cheese.
Food Pairings:
Truffles, cheese boards, Asian dishes, mushrooms, roasted turkey, beef, duck, goose, and game.

Whilst packing up to move internationally a friend died and I needed to organise an emergency case of something luscious to support the wake. This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Having tasted them she was spot on with her comments on each bottle. I would highly recommend anyone to use this shop.
