Kistler vineyards is a heritage Californian producer with a selection of Chardonnay plantedacross fifteen vineyards, from Carneros to Sonoma Valley, to the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast. They have their own Chardonnay clone which they've been working with and on since the mid 1980’s. Its parent material was imported from Burgundy in the early 20th century. Its long history in California means that it has been selected for and by California farmers and winemakers over decades to ripen well in Californian growing conditions.
Among the most famous Chardonnay vineyards in California, the legendary Larry Hyde first planted vines in the centre of Carneros in 1979. The coolest part of Napa County, with marine loam soil, it is suited perfectly to the production of fine, Burgundian Chardonnay.
One of the most intensely mineral wines in the Kistler range, expressing crushed rock and oyster shell aromas alongside green apple, orange zest and peach fruit and subtle, spicy oak. Initially tightly coiled on the palate, after time in the glass it shows divine weight and length. Enjoy with fine fish and poultry dishes, alternatively this will develop in the cellar for a decade or more.

Whilst packing up to move internationally a friend died and I needed to organise an emergency case of something luscious to support the wake. This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Having tasted them she was spot on with her comments on each bottle. I would highly recommend anyone to use this shop.
