Pittnauer Blonde By Nature 2022

Gerhard Pittnauer inherited the family estate at the age of 18, after the sudden death of his father.  After much study and travel, he returned to Austria with a mission to make his own wine with a global perspective. Drawing on the international wines he loved, he found a common thread in their bio-dynamic approach. Using this new found knowledge he experimented with a greater appreciation of the native varieties of the estate. 

Pittnauer tends 15 hectares of land, half owned, half rented. The vines grow deep in limestone soils, they taste for perfect ripeness and strive to retain a purity of fruit which is true to the varietals. The vinification process is never rushed and although modern winemaking equipment is utilised to ensure clean and fresh wines, their role is to support a natural evolution of fruit to wine. 

The 2022 Blonde by Nature blends Pinot Blanc, Gruner Veltliner and Riesling, fermented with a short skin contact in a mixture of barrels and amphorae. Nothing is added or taken away from press to bottle, making this a truly natural wine. Very aromatic, with tangerine and pineapple notes plus a hint of herbs. On the palate it is dry, with light tannic grip, citrus and passion fruit with a drop of honey.
