Port Phillip Estate is based on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, a region strongly influenced by cool coastal breezes and known for producing Chardonnay with tension and finesse. Their Quartier label draws on fruit from nearby vineyards and is made with a deliberately light touch in the winery, favouring natural fermentations and time on lees to build texture while keeping the style bright and understated.
The 2024 Quartier Chardonnay shows a pale straw colour and an aromatic profile that’s clean and focused. Citrus notes of grapefruit and lemon peel sit alongside subtle white peach tones and a faint floral lift. There’s also a gentle mineral edge that adds definition without dominating the aroma.
On the palate, the wine is lively and finely shaped. The fruit is precise rather than opulent, carried by a fresh line of acidity that keeps everything tight and refreshing. Lees contact adds a soft, subtle creaminess, but the overall feel remains lean and elegant. The finish is crisp, lightly citrus-driven and quietly mineral, showing the clarity and restraint typical of Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Having tasted them she was spot on with her comments on each bottle. I would highly recommend anyone to use this shop.
