Taylor’s is one of the most historic and prestigious Port houses, founded in 1692 and still independently family-owned. Revered as a benchmark for Vintage Port, Taylor’s Vintage Ports are structured, full-bodied, and built to last, with a distinct house character of intense fruit, firm tannins, and aromatic complexity.

The 1985 vintage is considered one of the great years of the late 20th century, with conditions that produced wines of exceptional balance, concentration, and purity of fruit. Taylor’s excelled in this harvest, creating a Port that has long been recognised for both its early charm and long-term cellaring potential.

Now approaching four decades of age, the 1985 Vintage Port displays a deep garnet. The bouquet is complex and inviting, with aromas of dried black cherry, fig, and plum, interwoven with cedar, tobacco, dark chocolate, spice, and a lifted floral edge of violet. On the palate, it is rich and full, yet beautifully balanced, with supple tannins, layers of sweet black fruit, notes of walnut and spice, and a long, warming finish that lingers. This wine is drinking superbly now, though top bottles will continue to evolve gracefully.

Decant carefully to remove sediment and best served slightly cool. Pair with with blue cheeses such as Stilton, but equally at home with dark chocolate desserts, roasted nuts, or as a solo digestif to really appreciate the layers of complexity.
