Amore e Magia Brunello di Montalcino Podere Le Ripi 2018

Podere Le Ripi is a biodynamic estate on the eastern side of Montalcino, where Sangiovese grows on a mix of sandstone and clay that tends to give wines both structure and aromatic lift. Their Brunello “Amore e Magia” comes from some of their higher elevation vineyards and is made in a distinctly traditional style, with long, slow ageing that emphasises purity over oak imprint.

The 2018 opens with a luminous ruby colour shifting toward garnet at the rim. The nose is refined and understated: red and dark fruits, raspberry, cherry, a touch of plum, mingling with rose, dried herbs and a gentle earthy note. Nothing feels pushed, the aromas build gradually and feel well integrated.

On the palate, the wine is poised and elegant rather than heavy. The fruit is taut and fresh, supported by lively acidity that gives the wine drive. The tannins are firm but finely textured, the sort that grip lightly and then settle into the background. Subtle savoury tones, earth, dried flowers, a hint of spice, add detail without overshadowing the fruit. The finish is long, clean and quietly layered, showing the finesse that marks both the estate and the vintage.
