Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta is a long-established family winery in the Rioja region of Spain. Founded in the late 19th century, the company is known for combining traditional winemaking methods with a strong vermouth-making heritage. Their Vermut Rojo is crafted from wine infused with a carefully selected mix of herbs, spices, and citrus botanicals, with part of the blend aged in oak barrels to add complexity and depth.
Rich amber-red in colour, this vermouth has fragrant aromas of orange peel, sweet spices, herbs, and hints of vanilla. The palate is smooth and well-balanced, with flavours of candied citrus, dried fruits, cinnamon, and aromatic herbs. A gentle sweetness is balanced by a pleasant herbal bitterness, leading to a long, warming finish with notes of spice and orange zest. Elegant and versatile, it is ideal served over ice as an aperitif or used in classic vermouth-based cocktails.

Whilst packing up to move internationally a friend died and I needed to organise an emergency case of something luscious to support the wake. This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Having tasted them she was spot on with her comments on each bottle. I would highly recommend anyone to use this shop.
