Botanica Wines was established in 2009 at Protea Heights Farm, in South Africa's iconic Stellenbosch region. Their mission lies with the principles of regenerative agriculture. This innovative form of organic farming represents the future, working to amplify soil fertility, cultivate biodiversity, bolster the soil's water retention capacity, and enrich the overall ecosystem. At the core of this agroecological philosophy is the practice of no-till farming. By capturing carbon within both the soil and the aboveground biomass, this approach actively counteracts the current trend of atmospheric carbon build up, thus playing a pivotal role in mitigating climate change. It also delivers a range of benefits including heightened crop yields, diminished susceptibility to diseases, increased resilience against droughts and climatic fluctuations, along with improved vitality and health for the soil.
The grapes, meticulously hand-harvested, underwent a process involving destemming, crushing, and fermentation within stainless steel tanks. Over the course of 11 months, it matured within French oak barrels of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th usage, each with a volume of 300 liters. The resulting wine showcases intricate fragrances and flavours reminiscent of plum and dark berry fruits. These notes harmonize with a lavish, velvety texture on the palate, accompanied by gracefully refined tannins. This wine holds the dual characteristic of being refreshingly juicy for solitary enjoyment, yet possessing a structural grip that makes it an excellent companion for a decadent steak pairing.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Having tasted them she was spot on with her comments on each bottle. I would highly recommend anyone to use this shop.
