Château Fonplégade Fleur de Fonplégade Saint-Emilion 2019

Château Fonplégade, meaning "fountain of plenty," takes it name from a historic 13th-century stone fountain gracing its vineyard. This fountain has quenched the thirst of pilgrims passing through for centuries and, even in the driest vintages, continues to nourish the estate's precious vines.

The story of grapevines flourishing on this remarkable site, perched atop the limestone plateau that hosts Saint-Emilion's most prestigious vineyards, traces back to the late 1500s. In 1852, the legendary wine merchant Jean-Pierre Beylot acquired the property and erected the elegant château that now stands as a testament to its rich history.

Château Fonplégade serves as an embodiment of the terroir's purest and most characteristic expression. The vineyard, enriched with an assortment of ideal soils and a captivating diversity of geological and geographical features, is divided into 27 meticulously cultivated parcels encompassing 45.5 acres. These carefully tended plots constitute the artist's palette of this terroir, providing an abundance of flavour components that shape the wines.

Exhibiting an impeccable equilibrium between fruit, complexity, and aromatic length, this wine is distinguished by a refined minerality that remains consistent year after year. It boasts soft and supple tannins, along with a velvety texture. Crafted from the estate's oldest vines, each cluster is meticulously tended using organic and biodynamic practices to bring out the utmost quality. Predominantly composed of Merlot, the blend incorporates just the right amount of Cabernet Franc to impart an elegant tannic structure.

The aging process involves maturation for 16-20 months. It takes place in a combination of 50% new French oak barrels, 30% in French oak barrels of one-year-old, 10% in egg-shaped concrete vessels, and 10% in amphoras.
