Chateau Maine Gazin is a 7.5 hectare property located within the small village of Plassac in the Blaye region in the north of Bordeaux. The property slopes north to south towards rolling hills of vineyards and to the west beautiful views of the Gironde River and across to the Medoc. Owners Geoff and Marion Cook emigrated from Australia in 2015 to follow their dreams of running a vineyard and have quickly established themselves as an excellent source for reasonably priced, fresh and drinkable Bordeaux. They aim to work the vineyards in a sustainable way and began the process of converting to certified organic production in 2018.
Their 2020 is a blend of 80% Merlot, with 12% Cabernet Franc and 8% Petit Verdot.
Rich and alluring in aroma, with red plums, blackberry and anise notes and a touch of toasty oak. Smooth with refined tannins and delightful freshness on the palate, a brilliant Bordeaux for the dinner table. Suits a variety of savoury dishes including sausage casseroles, vegetable stews or roast lamb.

Whilst packing up to move internationally a friend died and I needed to organise an emergency case of something luscious to support the wake. This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Having tasted them she was spot on with her comments on each bottle. I would highly recommend anyone to use this shop.
