Lionel Gosseaume officially founded this estate only in 2007, though has followed long-established family footsteps in wine. The estate is named after his father, Pierre. He cultivates 36 hectares of which the majority is Sauvignon Blanc, though there are a few hectares of old vine Gamay which he uses for this very good interesting and complex red. The vineyards are located between the Loire and Cher rivers, mostly in the Choussy commune, a few miles south of Blois.
Late picked Gamay from 40-60 year old wines means this is not just a simple quaffing red, it has real depth of flavour and structure it. 15 day carbonic maceration helps to accentuate the fruit concentration we love about Gamay.
Red cherry and cranberry fruit is joined by smoky and flinty hints as this suave-textured red glides over the tongue. An outstanding food wine, try this with lentils, pork or try it with spicy middle eastern and mediterranean cuisines.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Having tasted them she was spot on with her comments on each bottle. I would highly recommend anyone to use this shop.
