The only vineyard in Bamboes Bay on the Cape West Coast, Fryer's Cove is a remarkable wine producer with close ties to their local community. Their winery is a converted crayfish canning factory on Doringbaai harbour and houses a restaurant, of which they gave 70% ownership back to the community who staff it. Uniquely, temperature control for the tanks in the winery is done by pumping cold sea water into the cooling jackets!
The cold Atlantic breezes give a fantastic sense of freshness and salinity to their wines that set them apart from other parts of South Africa, alongside their limestone and granite soils it makes their terroir ideal for crisp, flinty Sauvignon Blanc.
Elegant and clean in style, with subtle mint and snow pea aromas alongside lime zest and sea salt. On the palate it is dry and steely, with lovely concentrated citrus fruits and flinty mineral notes. A seriously classy Sauvignon that will partner shellfish and salads beautifully.

Whilst packing up to move internationally a friend died and I needed to organise an emergency case of something luscious to support the wake. This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Having tasted them she was spot on with her comments on each bottle. I would highly recommend anyone to use this shop.
