Located between the Helderberg and Stellenbosch mountains, Keermont is a 160 hectare estate with 30 hectares of sustainably farmed vines and 100 hectares of conservation land, preserving the biodiverse cape fynbos.
The 2020 Merlot is a blend of two blocks on their property, along with small quantities of Cabernet Franc and Malbec. They adhere to a hands off approach for fermentation, adding no yeast, acids or other adjustments. The wine is then aged for 19 months in used French oak barrels to enhance the depth and smoothness. 11720 bottles were produced this vintage.
Rich plum and cherry fruits are complemented by lots of delicious spicy notes - cinnamon and star anise especially. The palate is full-bodied but not jammy, with silky tannins and excellent freshness.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome.
