Le Riche Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Produced by one of the leading names in South African Cabernet Sauvignon, Le Riche has earned a reputation for crafting benchmark examples of the variety from Stellenbosch. This outstanding 2019 vintage showcases the region’s diverse terroir, combining fruit from four distinct sites, from the cool, gravelly slopes influenced by False Bay to the rich red granite soils around Stellenbosch. The maritime influence brings freshness and elegance, while the blend of different vineyard sites adds depth and complexity, with a nod to the classic wines of Bordeaux.

The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness and fermented in temperature-controlled open concrete tanks, with regular manual plunging and pump-overs. Following malolactic fermentation in concrete, the wine matures for 20 months in 225-litre French oak barrels, 25% of which are new. The result is an impressive Cabernet Sauvignon with aromas of ripe cherry and fresh plum, complemented by vanilla and cedar spice. The palate is layered with rich fruit and savoury spice, supported by smooth, velvety tannins, a firm structure and a long, lingering finish.
