"El Plano Alto" stands as a testament to high-altitude viticulture, where a meticulously tended vineyard, cultivated organically, thrives with 50 to 85-year-old, low-yielding vines. This vineyard is the heart of Libre y Salvaje (Free and Wild), a visionary undertaking by José Ignacio Marín, a distinguished winemaker hailing from Cariñena, Spain. Marín's passion is evident in the project's mission: to revive high-altitude vineyards adorned with ancient vines of indigenous grape varieties while restoring a venerable winery. Remarkably situated atop ancient caves, the winery provides an ideal setting for the natural ageing of wine.
The 2021 Narancha opens with a glowing, slightly hazy orange hue, due to its skin-contact style. The nose is expressive and vibrant, offering aromas of dried citrus peel, apricot, chamomile, and a gentle herbal edge. On the palate, it is textured yet refreshing the extended skin contact brings a light grip, giving structure to the bright, tangy citrus and stone-fruit flavours. Subtle tannins frame the wine without weighing it down. The finish is clean, zesty, and lightly savoury, leaving impressions of orange rind and tea-like nuances.
A lively, characterful orange wine that balances rustic texture with clarity and lift.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful. The young lady assisted me and my wife on a number of purchases of wine and sherry and seemed very knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. Having tasted them she was spot on with her comments on each bottle. I would highly recommend anyone to use this shop.
