Madame de Beaucaillou Haut Medoc 2021

The history of this iconic Château extends back to the early 18th century, in the year 1720. It received the name Ducru-Beaucaillou because of the beautiful (and large) stones characteristic of its unique wine terroir. Unfashionable for Bordeaux at the time, this Victorian-style Château is built directly above the barrel cellars. Classified as a 2nd Grand Cru in 1855. The Borie family have been continuing the production of quality and excellence the estate is known for since 1942.

The 2021 is crafted predominantly from Merlot with 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Petit Verdot. This sophisticated blend offers bold, savoury flavours with vibrant energy and charm.  On the nose, it reveals layers of dark berries, rich spices, crushed flowers, loamy earth, mint, and a hint of orange peel. The palate is medium-bodied and lively, with bright acidity, a smooth texture, and a balanced weight on the tongue. Flavours of blackcurrant and black cherry unfold, leading to a persistent, well-concentrated finish.

With ratings of 88-89+ from Wine Advocate, 89 from Decanter, 90-91 from James Suckling, and 16 from Jancis Robinson, this wine has been recognised for its elegance and structure. It is approachable now but has the potential for further ageing. Ideal pairings include roasted or grilled meats such as beef, lamb, pork, veal, duck, and game, as well as roast chicken and richer seafood dishes.
