Domaine des Moirots is a family property situated in the village of Bissey-sur-Cruchaud that has been producing wine on about 30 acres of south facing vineyards in the Cote Chalonnaise, the region just to the south of the Cote de Beaune, since 1978. Christophe Denizot handles the operation and produces Chardonnay and Pinot Noir based wines from his carefully tended vineyards using traditional Burgundian methods allied to modern winemaking techniques to produce fine wines from the healthiest vines. The granite and limestone soils and climate here lends itself to the production of wines of firm acidity and supple minerality.

Their south-facing Chardonnay vineyards are planted on gentle, sun drenched slopes. Though the region is further south, it’s cooler than the Côte d’Or because of the higher altitude which tends to give the wines a seam of quite firm acidity.

Christophe is the winemaker and his pride and joy is the Montagny, Le Vieux Château. After fermentation, he believes in predominantly using concrete cuves to enhance terroir yet judiciously employs 1/3 new oak and 2/3 old oak barriques for 20% of the wine. A delicious wine with great citrus intensity, mineral notes and a smooth creamy texture.
