Montecalvo Falanghina 2023 is a vibrant and expressive white wine from Campania that showcases the lesser known Falanghina grape. Grown in limestone and clay soils at elevations of 300–400 metres, the vines are Guyot-trained to encourage balanced ripening and concentration. The grapes are hand-harvested in late September and undergo gentle pressing before a cool, temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel. No malolactic fermentation is used, preserving the wine’s natural acidity and freshness.
On the nose, it opens with lightly tropical aromas of pineapple and honeysuckle, complemented by zesty citrus and ripe apple. The palate follows with juicy notes of lemon, candied peel, and subtle white spice, finishing with a clean minerality that reflects its hillside terroir.
Montecalvo Falanghina is an ideal partner to Mediterranean dishes. Pair it with aubergine parmigiana, gnocchi with pancetta, spinach and Parmesan, or a fresh Caprese salad with Buffalo Mozzarella for a deliciously harmonious meal. Serve well chilled to bring out its aromatic charm and crisp finish.

This was my second visit to Butlers Wine Cellar and on both occasions the service has been wonderful.
